Join Marc Muench and Andy Williams in Sitka Alaska for this Wildlife and Landscape Photography Workshop.
Sitka by the Sea, Alaska
August 20-25, 2010
$4150, all inclusive*
Pro photographers:
Marc MuenchAndy Williams
The most beautiful city on the Alaskan Panhandle,
Sitka is nestled on the side of Baranof Island between the mountains and the Pacific Ocean. With 18 hours of gorgeous sunlight in August, it provides endless shooting possibilities.
As with all the photography workshops our main
purpose is to teach the concepts and techniques of how best to
take unusually beautiful images in unusually beautiful places.
Sitka will be no exception! The reason we have chosen this
location is for its naturally dynamic and varied beauty. However,
this place has more to offer than landscapes! Bears, whales and
Eagles hang out here and are common amongst the trees and
mountains, so we will be spending time pursuing the wildlife as well
on this adventure.
And through vantage points in the rain forest
we will be looking for angles of distant glaciated mountains, and
ascending Mt Verstovia towering over town. This will be a target
rich environment where Marc and Andy can illustrate various
techniques all day long!
Marc Muench and Andy Williams we will be joined by local professional photographer
Dan Evans (in fact these are his photos on this page!) Dan has spent a life time exploring the surrounding wilds and is very excited to show us around.
*You are responsible for transportation to/from Sitka, but all transportation, food, lodging and services in Sitka during the workshop are covered by your tuition.
We'll be taking two boat trips out into the beautiful waters surrounding Sitka where we'll see eagles hanging out in spruce trees, waterfalls plunge into the ocean and, of course, incredible scenic beaches.
Realistic HDR
The best part of shooting in Alaska this time of year will be the long twilight hours, making for ideal HDR conditions. Marc will be focusing much of the instruction time on methods for creating high dynamic range composites with both software and manually within Photoshop. "Not all tone mapped or auto blended HDR images are created equal" says Marc. "This leaves much room for manual enhancements"
Fill Flash
We will be spending time demonstrating how to create soft light in the middle of the harsh mid day sun, or how to add some contrast to cloudy soft light all with the aid of a hand held flash. The perfect location and subject for this will be the incredible totems within walking distance of our hotel.
Summer days are very long in Alaska at this time of year, so we'll have plenty of time to enjoy ourselves in the afternoons. We'll be feasting on crab and salmon at Sitka's famous crab bakes. Good food, beautiful scenery and a little photography talk to go with it!
