Hi Andy - here's my effort: keep me posted on the workshops - this was fabulous. All the best, Sarah
Sunday 24th:
Met group at Cardinal Lodge and cabins assigned. Nancy, Sarah, Rob, Jim, Bill together and the rest arranged in others. Met around 6 pm for supper, intros etc. Paul arrived later.
Monday 25th:
Breakfast at Cardinal lodge after SHOWERS. Took luggage to packers near North Lake, and then drove to trailhead. Left 10 am, and described as gruelling hike in my diary! Arrived around 3.15 pm, had delicious gazpacho soup and rested until supper around 5 pm. (Pork, black beans and salad) Star shoot at NE end of Dingleberry lake.
Tuesday 26th:
Up around 5 am and went back to Dingleberry Lake for sunrise. Breakfast at 8. Good breakfast -were those hash browns? brownies? (Have never been sure of the lingo on that, and get nervous ordering in an American restaurant - either get food or jail..) Think that was the morning that we had the Tilt Shift tutorial after breakfast. Left around 11,30/12 to hike up past Dingleberry Lake to Pee Wee lake on long way round via waterfall scramble, to the lake for lunch., then views above Topsy Turvy lake (think that was the grey glacial lake), where David and I did lupins and grasses, and on to Sailor Lake, where we saw the landslide on Powell glacier. There were a variety of little cascades that I got stuck into and I think others found a bigger cascade falling vertically over a rock that I didn't get to. At Sailor Lake, we noticed Heckel, Wallace and Clyde peaks, then we met up and did a 1 1/2 mile trail loop back to camp for hamburger supper.
Wednesday 27th:
Up around 5 am and took trail to Emerald Lakes (can't remember who went and what the others did instead -Sleep??). There are a series of lakes there and we spent time mostly at the southern one and then a bit of time in the northern one, I think (I have the sense of direction of a grasshopper...). back for breakfast at 8 - crepes and salsa, onions, sour cream, with fresh pineapple. Relaxing morning, then roast beef sandwich- make-your-own-sandwich lunch. Point and shoot tutorial with fine demo of Joby tripod by Andy. Trail over Sarah Slade Memorial Bridge to Midnight Lake. On the way - photos of the waterfall and there was a small lake/pond nearby with LUPINS. Onto Midnight Lake and some people did the rock scramble to the top. You know who you are, and I have absolutely no idea why I wasn't invited.... Supper - didn't jot down what it was, but I know it was good. Steve, Nancy and I went and set up a star shoot near the SS Memorial Bridge and the scramblers kindly avoided knocking over the tripods on their return. Discussion around the campfire in the evening.
Thursday 28th:
Up at 5 - some went back to Emerald lake for another sunrise shoot, some went to see Steve fly-fishing, and Andy and I went down to SS Memorial Bridge , to what is apparently called Darwin Creek (appropriate - survival of the fittest and all that...) lazy morning to do what we wanted - I did some shots of the coral bells, water cascade beside the camp, etc. Lunch sandwich make-your-own. Then took the SS Memorial Bridge to lupin meadows and waterfalls below Pee Wee lake. Supper at 5 -fabulous steak, mushrooms, zucchini and potato. Nancy went to do some photos of the bridge area, several of us went to Dingleberry Lake for sunset, then back for discussion on the Muench image cataloguing.
Friday 29th:
Up at 5.30. David led another Dingleberry Lake sunrise expedition, others stayed around the Memorial Bridge/Darwin Creek area, presumably honing survival skills. Back for breakfast - toasted bagels, fresh fruit, etc. Packed up and left around 9.15 and took the trail back. I have no idea of the names of various lakes and ponds that we saw on the way, and will just call mine Sabrina Basin. Lunch at Cardinal Village, SHOWERS at Best Western Creekside, Nancy and I went to Mountain Light, as did Steve and Brian, and the rest of you can fill in that gap until supper around 7 -and crits till late!
Saturday 30th: Breakfast together except Steve Fines who left at the crack of dawn, and farewells.
Hope that does it. I left at 10am Saturday, and travelled solidly, arriving home at 3am on Monday!! If I have made mistakes or things are not clear, it's because things don't really feel clear right now! But please contact me if further clarification is required - or just to say hi. Hope this helps and my best to everyone. It was a fabulous trip, both from the photography and "people" points of view. Thanks to all who lent support, either literally or metaphorically, to the physical challenges that I discovered on this trip....!
All the best,
Sarah
